Small Business - Getting a Domain Name and Hosting

So you have your own business and you've decided you need a website. Well, you're probably right. If you don't know anything about creating a website, you will have to have one hosted for you. You also need to register your preferred domain name, or the internet address people will use to get to your site. There are companies out there that can provide both of these services for you.

Plenty of companies do domain name registration and web hosting both. Because of this, you can choose from a number of different packages and prices. However, if your budget is a consideration, you may be better off having these services provided by different companies.

Because there is so much competition among hosting companies and registering companies, you can shop around for the best price on each service.

On the other hand, maybe it is convenience you are after and you don't really care too much about price. If that is the case, you do want to get a package deal where one company registers your domain name and then hosts your website.

When you decide to get a single company to provide both services, this makes things much simpler. Consider how much easier it will be to solve problems with your site, if you only have to contact a single company's tech department to find out what is going on.

The simplicity factor extends to billing also. You'll have one bill, not two, and will be paying a single company rather than two companies.

Watch how much you are paying though. There is no cost regulation for hosting products and services. Companies can pretty much charge you as much as they think you are going to be willing to pay.

If you compare different companies, you can see the breakdown of costs. Check how much each charges for the different parts of your website, such as domain registration, server space, and hosting fees. If you don't, you risk overpaying for services you could find elsewhere cheaper.
